This policy explains what personal information May Tailoring collects, why we collect it and what we do with it. We have kept it short and plain. If anything is unclear, just ask us.
Who we are
May Tailoring is an alterations and tailoring shop at London N1 3AP. We are the “controller” of the information described here, which means we decide how it is used and we are responsible for looking after it. You can reach us at info@maytailoring.co.uk, or in person at the shop.
What we collect
- When you use the contact form: your name, email address, phone number (if you give it), what your enquiry is about and your message. To stop spam, we also keep a scrambled, one-way version of your IP address with the message. It cannot be turned back into your address.
- When you contact us by WhatsApp, phone or email: your name, your number or email address, and what you send us, including any photos of your garments.
- When you leave a garment with us: your name and mobile number, what we are altering, the price and the collection date. We keep this in our order system.
We do not collect information about you just because you visit this website. We do not use analytics or tracking. Like every website, our hosting provider keeps short-lived server logs (including IP addresses) to keep the site secure.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To reply to your enquiry. Our legal basis is legitimate interests: you have asked us something and we want to answer.
- To do the work you ask for and tell you when it is ready. Our legal basis is contract: we need your details to carry out and hand back your order.
- To keep accounting records. Our legal basis is legal obligation: the law requires us to keep business records.
- To keep the website secure and free of spam. Our legal basis is legitimate interests.
Order texts
If you leave a garment with us, we may text you about that order, for example to tell you it is ready to collect. These texts are updates about your order only. We never send marketing texts, and we never sell or share your number for marketing.
Who we share it with
We use a few trusted companies to run the website and the shop. They only use your information to provide their service to us, under contract, and never for their own purposes:
- Our website hosting provider, which runs the website.
- Our database provider, which stores the website’s and the order system’s information.
- Our email provider, which delivers contact form messages to us.
- Our text message (SMS) provider, which sends order texts.
- Google Maps, only if you click “Show map” on the Contact page. Google then receives your IP address and may set its own cookies, under Google’s privacy policy.
We can tell you which companies these are if you ask. We never sell your information.
Transfers outside the UK
Some of these providers store or process information outside the UK, for example in the European Union or the United States. When they do, the transfer is protected by UK adequacy regulations or by the approved contract terms for international transfers.
How long we keep it
- Contact form enquiries: 12 months, then deleted.
- Order records: as long as we need them for our accounts, normally six years.
- WhatsApp, phone and email messages: only as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry or order.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong
- ask us to delete your information
- object to how we use it, or ask us to limit it
Requests are free, and we will reply within one month. We may need to check who you are before we act on a request.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Cookies
This website does not use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, which is why there is no cookie banner. The only cookie it sets is a strictly necessary login cookie for our staff when they sign in to manage the website. Google Maps may set its own cookies, but only if you choose to show the map.
Contact us about your data
To make a request or ask a question about your information, email info@maytailoring.co.uk with “Privacy” in the subject, or ask us in the shop.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if anything changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
